Dance Project: Mood boards

Throughout this project so far I have found that my most successful form of visual research is by curating professional mood boards. I have always found mood boards as an effective way of translating my ideas as I mentioned in my previous post drawing isn’t my main skill.

A mood board on New Romantics

When i make a mood board I find that I’m able to analyse and really think about what I want to include in my designs without feeling the pressure that I feel from drawing. I am able to look and analyse silhouettes, different fabrics and different sub cultures that can influence my designs.

Vintage Circus Mood Board

I have found that through making mood boards I have been able to research ideas that I wouldn’t of thought of if i hadn’t been making a mood board. For example vintage circus is influenced throughout my designs but I only found these inspirational images when researching bloomers and breeches for another mood board.

Looking At Tim Walker’s Photography

Through making mood boards I have been able to separate my ideas down and look at the main aspects that i want to incorporate and dismiss ideas quickly and effectively without wasting time. I have also found that they help me with understanding the construction lines of clothing and where seams need to be drawn and how fabric falls on a particular pose.
