When designing i usually focus a lot on colour theory and using colours that fully represent a character. However the choreographer stated in the concept that she liked the ideas of neutral tones and greys. So i had to change my usual want to incorporate colour and experiment with lots of different colours to experimenting shades and tones of grey.

I have found the experience of being limited in colour to be quite stress relieving as I no longer have to overthink; ‘do these colours clash?’ etc. I am able to fully focus on the shape and silhouettes of the garments themselves and the tone of grey rather than individual colours.
This limitation on colour has meant that i have been experimenting with a few different kinds of media. I have experimented with promarkers and fine liner and watercolour pencil and fine liner. I found that from using promarkers I was able to layer and shading to my designs with ease however I found that I lacked a level of control with them, so I will need to practice with them further to develop my skill. I then outlined and added details with fine liners to add definition. I did like colouring in my designs in this way.

I then coloured the same designs with watercolour pencils and fine liner. I liked the depth and shading I was able to achieve on the white shirts and bloomers with the watercolour pencils as I could very lightly create shadows and folds in the fabric. However I struggled to get certain areas as dark as I would of liked to achieve I could try combining aspects of the promarker to the watercolour to get the shade or perhaps go over in pencil to get the correct shades.

I found that from this experimentation that for me to get the best possible outcome i will have to combine both the watercolour pencils and promarkers to gain the amount of shades I want and the level of detail that I want to achieve.
great experimentation
