During this project I was part of the process of sampling surface decoration and relearning screen printing skills in the dye room. The designer told me how she wanted it all to be and I was enlisted on getting the base done for her to add the final touches.

Testing out foiling on our fabrics
I found that during this process I had to brush up on my screen printing skills which I found really helpful as it’s a skill that I haven’t been able to use for a while. I can now add this to my skills and abilities which I can definitely apply to future productions and designs.

I also learnt a lot about perspective during this time in the dye room as we had to stop looking at the decoration up close as we will not be seeing it like that in the final product. We had to step away and look at how the foiling reflects and moves under the light. This is something that I hadn’t thought about previously so this was very helpful in teaching me about how your designs and costumes will be viewed and taking this into consideration when designing and making.
